► (n. 1912) Director cinematográfico italiano. Supo expresar los sentimientos y angustias contemporáneos. Películas: Las amigas (1955), La aventura (1959). En E.U.A. filmó Zabriskie Point (1970). Realizó un excelente informe sobre la China maoísta: Chung Kuo (1972).

Director y productor de cine italiano. Escribió comentarios de películas y estudió cine antes de dirigir su primer cortometraje, La gente del valle del Po (1947). A su primera película importante, Las amigas (1955), le siguieron otras de éxito internacional como La aventura (1960), Eclipse (1962) y Blow-up (1966). Entre sus otros largometrajes se cuentan El desierto rojo (1964), Zabriskie Point (1970) y El pasajero (1974). En los filmes de Antonioni la trama y los diálogos están subordinados a la imagen visual, que se convierte más bien en una metáfora de la existencia humana que en un registro de la misma.
